If your infant is sick or just is suffering from some other, more serious health issue, it’s always recommended that you bring them directly to the nearest urgent care center. This can be a doctor who specializes in dealing with children who have health issues. If you’ve ever had to deal with a sick child at a kid’s day care center or even at your local family dentist, you know what I’m talking about. The staff was overworked and sometimes they didn’t have the time to deal with serious health problems that needed attention immediately.
Some doctors think that taking your child to an immediate care pediatricians is just as good as taking them to the emergency room. But often, children who have severe health issues wait too long in emergency rooms before being sent to a pediatrician, which is fine. Doctors who specialize in dealing with children who are sick often don’t have enough time to explain their patients to them unless the patient is extremely ill, and then it is too late to make adjustments. There is no worse experience than having to go into surgery only to find out that a problem that could have been easily fixed has caused the child to need more extensive treatment. And if you have an infant or toddler who need urgent care, you may not be able to schedule an appointment with the doctor until the very next day, if you’re lucky.
In order to avoid waiting in emergency rooms and pediatric urgent care clinics for hours on end, you may want to try to schedule appointments in different places around your area. You may even want to go further out of the city, to a smaller town or rural area. Even a small town can have pediatric clinics. These clinics tend to have shorter wait times than a larger city, and are usually more affordable. If you live in an area where there aren’t many pediatric clinics, consider talking to your city council or state board about opening a pediatric urgent care clinic of your own.
